What is casting and how it's made?

What is Casting?
Casting involves pouring molten material into a prepared cavity On which solidification the metal takes the form of the cavity.

CASTING APPLICATIONS:
Complex and Intricate shapes
Near net shape
Large hollow shapes
Low scrap
Relatively quick process
No limit to size
Reasonable to good surface finish
Some metals and alloys only by casting

STEPS INVOLVED IN CASTING:
Melt metals

Pour / force liquid into hollow cavity (mold)

Cool / Solidify

Remove the solidified body

Fettling/Cleaning

Finish
Inspection
