What is Casting?
Casting involves pouring molten material into a prepared cavity On which solidification the metal takes the form of the cavity.
CASTING APPLICATIONS:
⦁ Complex and Intricate shapes
⦁ Near net shape
⦁ Large hollow shapes
⦁ Low scrap
⦁ Relatively quick process
⦁ No limit to size
⦁ Reasonable to good surface finish
⦁ Some metals and alloys only by casting
STEPS INVOLVED IN CASTING:
⦁ Melt metals
⦁ Pour / force liquid into hollow cavity (mold)
⦁ Cool / Solidify
⦁ Remove the solidified body
⦁ Fettling/Cleaning
⦁ Finish
⦁ Inspection
